Nationally Accredited Cycle Training - What's Involved?
The Training
All sessions are in a group of up to 6. Most people start at the beginning, off road, dependant upon experience. The National Training Standards require us to ensure you are safe at one level before going on to the next. There is no pass or fail - it is not like a driving test. The training builds confidence in your skills.
After you have booked on-line you will be contacted by phone about joining a group of 6 cyclists at your level. You will participate on a 6 week block of training for an hour once a week at the same time and place. This is usually at the Lenton Centre office. Upon completion you will receive a certificate appropriate to your pass level. In the warmer weather please expect a waiting list. If you are under 18 you must be accompanied on the course by a parent or carer. If you wish to receive cycle training on your own and you are not a University student then please ring the office for details of cost. Loan bikes are available for the sessions but can only be taken away to practise on if you leave a cheque deposit.
After each session the instructor discusses how you have progressed and what you should practice. There is usually no more than a week between sessions to give you time to practice the skills but not to forget what you have learnt.
The Bike
You use your own or we can lend you one of ours. Your bike needs to be in good condition – see the cycle maintenance sheet. Let us know if you want to borrow one of our bikes.
Your Clothes
Wear what you feel comfortable and safe in – there is no uniform. Whether you wear a helmet is up to you. We do not require you to wear one.
Last of all – enjoy it. We are involved in the training because we enjoy it. We want you to enjoy cycling as well.
